138 years ago in St. Petersburg Academy of Arts opened the first exhibition of the Wanderers

December 11, 1871: the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts opened the first exhibition of the Wanderers - painters and sculptors of the realistic and democratic direction, part of Russia's largest creative association "Peredvizhniki”.

The exhibition featured portraits by Ivan Kramskoy, Linen, Nikolai Ge "Peter I interrogates Tsarevich Alexei”, landscapes by “Ivan Shishkin”, Vasily Perov's genre scene "Hunters in camp”, and many others.

The highlight of the exhibition was the landscape by Alexei Savrasov “The Rooks Have Arrived ". The exhibition in St. Petersburg was closed in January 1872. After a small addition of new works, the exhibition visited two major Ukrainian cities - Kiev and Kharkov, which was a great success.

In total, the exhibition attracted more than 30,000 people. It sold a significant amount of work totaling more than 23,000 rubles. More than 4000 rubles were distributed among the members and participants of the exhibition. The fund of the Association constituted 1032 rubles 5 kopecks.

Further exhibitions of the Wanderers were held in many cities of Russia, and the last 48th was held in Moscow in 1923.

December 15, 2009 in the ancient city Gorodets (Nyzhny Novgorod region, Russia) museum-tourist complex "The town of Craftsmen" will be opened.

Gorodets - the most ancient city of Nizhny Novgorod region, known worldwide for its monuments and the phenomenon of cultural heritage. The city was founded in 1152 by Yuri Dolgoruky. After the death of Alexander Nevsky (who had finished his live in Gorodetsky Fedorovsky monastery) Gorodets was ruled by his son, Prince Andrew, nicknamed Gorodetsky. The period of his reign was considered the heyday of Gorodetsky independent principality. Architectural complex performed in wooden architecture theme of the princely towers.

In view of this phenomenon as a huge number of "live" folk crafts in one area it was intended to present them at one site in the "live" form, where the tourists could not only see but also to take active part in master classes.

Gorodets is the town on the left bank of the Volga, where the huge role played by embankment. It is a visiting card of the city and its main gate for the ships reach it by Volga.

For tourists folk meetings, concert programs are planned. They will fill the "The town of Craftsmen" by old costumes, bells and songs.
